Becoming a designer, culinary professional, game developer, filmmaker, or audio engineer does not happen overnight — it is a process that starts from your first day on campus. Understanding who you are and where you fit into the range of occupations in your field is the beginning step. Creating a personal network of professional contacts by attending industry events, conventions, mixers, internships and events at The Art Institute of Vancouver is critical to success in the field. Developing solid marketing materials for yourself, including a creative resume, a well thought-out cover letter, an outstanding portfolio and excellent presentation and interviewing skills also are essential to your growth as a professional in your field. That is why the Department of Career Services should be your first stop at Orientation.
The Department of Career Services provides support and assistance in career planning, job search strategies, interview techniques, and resume development. These services are provided through individual and group advising, workshops, and opportunities to network with industry professionals through Portfolio Shows, career fairs and networking events. Job leads for full-time professional work, part-time jobs and internships are available through your Career Services Advisor and a library of online and hard-copy career materials is available for student use.
